Ok after about a week with MacOS….

Ok after about a week with MacOS Snow Leopard on a fairly modern machine I’m starting to enjoy it…. There’s a lot of nice little character inserts that I knew that I’d miss from Windows (the ALT-numeric keycodes). However tonight I discovered that Mac has quite robust shortcuts to insert special characters.

For example in Windows to insert a Trademark (™) I’d hold down the ALT key and type 0153 on the numeric keypad… However on a Mac all I do is press Option/Alt and then the number 2. Similarly for a Restricted Copyright (®) I’d keystroke Option/Alt -R (Alt-0174 in Windows) Option T is † (looks like Alt 0134 in Windows), just in case you were wondering.

Once I’ve found out the keycode shortcuts, I’m actually liking the way Mac does it better.

I am now using a Mac thin aluminum keyboard and Mighty mouse and I’m pretty happy with it (except when I boot to Windows and play EQ2 on the Mac I can’t press the right and left at the same time to run forward)… I like the mini trackball, but I’m still getting used to it.

Think Different indeed, perhaps some of the hype lives up.
