Our Friendly Local Gaming Store (FLGS) events planner/Master Manipulator (every store needs one) finally announced a pretty big Warhammer 40,000 build up league (I loved the last one). I’m taking Eldar, that is for sure.
However I’m still not sure which Eldar I’ll be taking: the mean ones (Dark Eldar), or the not-as mean ones (Craftworld Eldar).
Here’s a quick breakdown of the pros and cons of both armies from my standpoint:
Dark Eldar going to 2500 points
Pros
- It’s a new codex (which arguably means it’s more competitive)
- It has some very beautiful models (although I’ll be using my modified ship-like raider conversions, although I may purchase Ravagers to help make a distinction for new players).
Cons
- I have quite a few models to purchase (mainly warriors & wyches…might pick up 3 ravagers)
- It’ll be a popular choice for ‘ard Boyz because of the Pros
Neutrals
- I have a LOT of models to paint and assemble. Which may not be easy with my work schedule
- There are a lot of really good builds in the codex, there’d be quite a bit of time to figure out which is the best for me.
Craftworld Eldar going to 2500 points
Pros
- I have every model that I’ll ever need (and then some–although the new Fire Prism kits are a “to purchase” item)
- I KNOW my Eldar.
- I have a considerable amount painted already, all that is left is finishing up the tanks.
Cons
- They’re considered a weaker codex tournament-strength wise.
- There’s really only one good mech-build (which is what I play).
Neutral
- No neutrals, I do have some painting to do, but mostly finishing.
- If I spend the time painting my Eldar as I would paint my Dark Eldar I’d have well more than 5-7000 points painted.
Looking at these I’m leaning more towards my Craftworld Eldar at this point (although we don’t have a Dark Eldar player at our FLGS currently). I’m still mostly neutral for which I choose despite the leaning. I, luckily, do have a couple of weeks to “finally” decide so there’s no need to decide today.
