15 Fire Dragons (Part 1)

March 22, 2010 | Reading time: 1 minutes

Since we have a local tournament coming up this Saturday (wow that snuck up on me quick with our wedding plans this month), I’ve decided to put my Five Dire Avenger Exarchs on hold until Sunday and furiously work on getting my 10 Fire Dragons painted. I’ve got 15 Aspect Warriors and 3 Exarchs. Since I’m not using the Exarchs I’m working on getting 10 completely done and the other 5 base coated.

Also, the 3 Exarchs will be base coated along with the 15 as a start to a future thread XX Fire Dragon Exarchs along the a similar line of the Dire Avenger Exarchs. There will be two exarchs per 10 Fire Dragons (which works out quite nicely for having the Dragons’ Breath and a Fire Pike option for each squad).

The general angle of attack will be to base the models white, put a couple of nice smooth coats of  Orange Fire Vallejo Game Color , a couple of thinned coats of Chestnut Ink, then a highlight of Orange Fire again, then Yellow Highlights.

The helmets will be the squad differentiation. One squad will have typical Aspect color Yellow helmets, one squad will have White helmets, and the last will have Black helmets. I’m not sure at this point if I’ll just start the squads of 3×5 members or if I’ll paint 1 squad of 5 and 1 squad of 10, although my Magic 8-Ball is pointing me towards 3 squads of 5 models.

If I get time to work on them I’ll post pictures tonight, at my general painting time of around midnight CST.

I know that I only need 10, but it’s only a very minor amount of time between 10 and 15. It’d be much slower for me to paint (at least base) 10 now, and then 5 models later.
